We’re pleased to witness the Poco X series rebounding after the substantial setback experienced with the Poco X4 Pro in the previous year. The new Poco X5 Pro 5G introduces notable enhancements across the board, spanning design, display, performance, camera, and battery life.
Though the vibrant yellow hue of the Poco X5 Pro 5G is visually engaging, it exudes a slightly more understated appeal compared to its predecessors. It boasts an exceptional OLED display featuring a rapid 120Hz refresh rate, maximum brightness reaching up to 900nits, and HDR10 and Dolby Vision certifications.
Furthermore, the presence of excellent Dolby Atmos speakers elegantly complements the qualities of the Dolby-enhanced screen. Noteworthy attributes include commendable battery longevity and swift charging capability.
The most laudable upgrade arrives in the new chipset, the Snapdragon 778G. This chipset played a pivotal role in the popularity of the Galaxy A52s in our assessments, and we anticipate the Poco X5 Pro to follow suit. Though the Poco devices lack the IP67 rating akin to the Galaxy series, they manage well with an unofficial IP53 rating.
While the camera department mirrors the setup from the Poco X4 Pro, incorporating similar photo quality, the new chipset introduces the welcome ability for 4K video recording. This development is indeed a positive stride.
Several minor concerns came to our attention; however, none seem to be decisive factors for us. Firstly, removing the microSD slot is noted, albeit the base model now doubles its storage capacity to 128GB. Additionally, the absence of an FM radio stands out.
Lastly, MIUI 14 layered over Android 12 closely resembles MIUI 13, with limited new visible features present. The extent of under-the-hood optimizations remains uncertain. Most of the novel MIUI enhancements appear exclusive to the Chinese MIUI ROM.
